I’ve done both, more times than I can count! At this point, my fridge might just take me inside to show me the miracle itself!</p>
<p>We all have some weird habits that we often find too strange or embarrassing to share with others. But trust me, you are not alone. These little quirks are more common than we think, and they make us who we are. So, let’s take a look at a few habits we all secretly share- even if we don’t always talk about them!</p>

<p>I think all of us have this habit of talking to inanimate objects. Remember when you apologized to a table after accidentally bumping into it? Or yelled at your laptop when it decided to freeze right in the middle of something important? I know!! I do this all the time!</p>

Let&#8217;s unravel the meaning of these different dates to help you consume your food safely.</span></p>
<h3><span dir="auto">What does the DDM (or DLUO) mean on a food product?</span></h3>
<p><span dir="auto">The Minimum Durability Date (MDD) replaced the old Best Before Date (BBD) in 2015, while retaining the same characteristics.</span></p>
<p><strong><span dir="auto">It is recognizable by the phrase &#8220;Best before…&#8221;</span></strong><span dir="auto"> on the product packaging. This date is purely indicative and indicates how long the food retains its optimal organoleptic and nutritional qualities.<br />

<p><span dir="auto">After this date, the product may lose some of its flavor, texture, or vitamin content, but it is not dangerous to your health. Consuming a product after its &#8220;best before&#8221; date is therefore possible, provided you check its appearance, smell, and taste before eating it.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">To combat food waste, a decree from November 2022 now allows manufacturers to supplement this information to inform consumers that the product remains safe to consume after this date.</span></p>
<h3><span dir="auto">What does the &#8220;use-by&#8221; date mean on a food product?</span></h3>
<p><span dir="auto">The Use By Date (UBD) is quite different and is recognized by </span><strong><span dir="auto">the phrase &#8220;Use by…&#8221; followed by a specific date</span></strong><span dir="auto"> .</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Unlike the best before date, the use-by date is mandatory and concerns perishable goods that may pose a health risk after a short period.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">These products, often high in water content, promote the growth of potentially pathogenic microorganisms. Consuming food after its expiration date can lead to food poisoning, as microbial activity may have developed invisibly, without any apparent spoilage. It is therefore strongly advised against consuming a product past its expiration date, even if it appears to be in good condition.</span></p>
<h3><span dir="auto">DDM vs DLC: when do we see the &#8220;use by&#8221; date?</span></h3>
<p><span dir="auto">The phrase &#8220;use by&#8221; (DLC) applies to fresh and perishable products that generally require refrigeration: fresh meats, fish, dairy products such as yogurts, non-sterilized prepared dishes, or fresh deli meats.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Conversely, the &#8220;best before&#8221; date (BBD) applies to more stable products such as pasta, rice, canned goods, biscuits, chocolate, or cereals. For these products, the date simply indicates optimal quality, but they remain edible well beyond that date, sometimes for several months depending on the type of food.</span></p>

Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch, Google Pixel Watch, Huawei Watch, Fitbit, Garmin, Polar… We&#8217;ve tested many models. Here are the factors to consider when choosing your smartwatch.</p>

<p><span dir="auto">Fitness trackers</span><span dir="auto"> are designed to monitor daily physical activity and promote well-being. Their main functions include heart rate monitoring, step counting, calorie tracking, and sleep tracking. They don&#8217;t always have a screen, but they work in conjunction with a smartphone app (to which the tracker connects via Bluetooth). This app allows users to access settings and view their data. Fitness trackers cost between €50 and €150.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">Smartwatches, also known as connected watches, are designed to be an extension of your smartphone. They offer numerous features related to sports and wellness, display notifications (calls, messages, social media), allow you to answer calls and reply to text messages, install apps (games, banking apps, train or plane tickets, etc.), view photos, check your calendar, and even make payments in stores. Smartwatches are more expensive, ranging from €50 to €1,000!</span></p>
<h2 id="watch-os-wear-os-tizen-os-plusieurs-systemes-d-exploitation" class="h2-article"><span dir="auto">Watch OS, Wear OS, Tizen OS, multiple operating systems</span></h2>
<p><span dir="auto">Smartwatches run on an operating system, like a smartphone. Each one offers its own user interface and app store.</span></p>
<h3><span dir="auto">Watch OS</span></h3>
<p><span dir="auto">Watch OS is the operating system for Apple Watches, designed to work seamlessly with iOS (the iPhone operating system). The system includes all the applications from the Apple ecosystem (Safari, Maps, Mail, Music, etc.) and integrates its voice assistant, Siri. </span></p>
<h3><span dir="auto">Wear OS</span></h3>
<p><span dir="auto">Google, for its part, offers Wear OS (formerly known as Android Wear), a version of Android designed for wearables. It also provides access to the entire Google ecosystem (Maps, Play Store, etc.) and integrates its voice assistant, Google Assistant. Google integrates it into its own smartwatches (Pixel Watch, Fitbit), but also offers it to other manufacturers, notably Samsung and Fossil.</span></p>
<h3><span dir="auto">Tizen OS</span></h3>
<p><span dir="auto">Until 2021, Samsung ran its watches on its own operating system, Tizen OS. This system, compatible with Android applications, still runs on its older models. But since the Galaxy Watch 4 Series, Samsung has also integrated Google&#8217;s Wear OS. As a result, recent Samsung models ( </span><span dir="auto">Galaxy Watch 6 Classic</span><span dir="auto"> , </span><span dir="auto">Galaxy Watch 7</span><span dir="auto"> , </span><span dir="auto">Galaxy Watch Ultra</span><span dir="auto"> ) are no longer compatible with Apple iPhones. </span></p>
<h3><span dir="auto">The other OS</span></h3>
<p><span dir="auto">Other smartwatch manufacturers, such as Huawei, Garmin or Polar, rely on their own system.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Apple Watches are only compatible with iPhones, but other smartwatches on the market (except those from Samsung) work with both iPhones and </span><span dir="auto">Android smartphones</span><span dir="auto"> . Note that some features may be unavailable (such as replying to text messages or posting on social media).</span></p>
<h2 id="apple-watch-la-montre-vedette" class="h2-article"><span dir="auto">Apple Watch, the star watch</span></h2>
<p><span dir="auto">Major smartphone manufacturers like Asus, LG, Motorola, Samsung, and Sony had already launched smartwatches when </span><span dir="auto">Apple finally released its own in April 2015.</span><span dir="auto"> And this </span><span dir="auto">Apple Watch</span><span dir="auto"> was the first to capture the public&#8217;s attention. With its sleek design, color screen, and unique interface, Apple managed to win over some consumers despite the watch&#8217;s price of €399 (and up to €1,200 depending on the materials!). Model after model, Apple improved its watch (by enlarging the screen, making it waterproof, and integrating a heart rate monitor, among other features) and established itself as the top seller of smartwatches, ahead of Garmin and Samsung.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">Since its first smartwatch, the </span><span dir="auto">Galaxy Gear, launched in 2013</span><span dir="auto"> , Samsung has released numerous models. The manufacturer improved the aesthetics, moving from a stark rectangular metal design to a more conventional circular screen, and refined its models: </span><span dir="auto">Gear Sport</span><span dir="auto"> , </span><span dir="auto">Gear S2</span><span dir="auto"> , and then </span><span dir="auto">Gear S3</span><span dir="auto"> . Samsung subsequently dropped the &#8220;Gear&#8221; name and organized its smartwatch range into three families:</span></p>

<h2 id="google-pixel-watch-la-nouveaute" class="h2-article"><span dir="auto">Google Pixel Watch, the new product</span></h2>
<p><span dir="auto">After years of rumors, Google finally launched its first smartwatch, the Google Pixel Watch, in March 2023. It runs on Wear OS, Google&#8217;s operating system, and also integrates the wellness features of Fitbit, which Google acquired in January 2021. Like Apple and Samsung, Google offers its watch with or without a mobile network connection.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The Google watch range today consists of the Pixel Watch 2 (starting at €279) and the Pixel Watch 3 (starting at €399).</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4 models have been added to Google&#8217;s catalog. Key differences between these models and the Google Pixel Watch:</span></p>
<ul>
<li><span dir="auto">They are compatible with iOS (13.3 and later) whereas the Pixel Watch only works with smartphones running Android (8 and later);</span></li>
<li><span dir="auto">they do not allow you to answer a call;</span></li>
<li><span dir="auto">They do not include all Google features (notably not Google Wallet for paying with the watch).</span></li>

<h2 id="une-montre-connectee-compatible-avec-le-smartphone" class="h2-article"><span dir="auto">A smartwatch compatible with the smartphone</span></h2>
<p><span dir="auto">The Apple Watch is designed to be used with an </span><span dir="auto">iPhone</span><span dir="auto"> , the only smartphone with which it is compatible. Watches from other smartphone manufacturers, such as the </span><span dir="auto">Huawei Watch Fit 3</span><span dir="auto"> , the </span><span dir="auto">Amazfit Balance</span><span dir="auto"> , or the </span><span dir="auto">Xiaomi Watch S3</span><span dir="auto"> , are compatible with both Android smartphones and iPhones. Note that a minimum configuration is always required. For example, the Apple Watch Series 10 only works with iPhone XS and later models running iOS 18 (and later). The Huawei Watch Fit 3, on the other hand, is compatible with Android smartphones from version 8 onwards and Apple smartphones from iOS 13 onwards. Be sure to check this before choosing a model.</span></p>
<h2 id="une-montre-connectee-pour-le-style" class="h2-article"><span dir="auto">A smartwatch for style</span></h2>
<p><span dir="auto">Smartwatch manufacturers are increasingly drawing inspiration from traditional watchmaking, for example by incorporating a side-mounted adjustment dial. Some manufacturers even use physical hands, or attempt hybrid solutions, like MyKronoz (whose </span><span dir="auto">ZeTime Premium offered a touchscreen and hands</span><span dir="auto"> ). This aesthetic sometimes comes at the expense of fitness-related features. The </span><span dir="auto">Withings ScanWatch2,</span><span dir="auto">  for instance, offers poor performance in fitness tracking.</span></p>

<h2 id="topic-2">How to speed up your internet</h2>
<p>There are many ways you can speed up your internet, including updating your browser, scanning for and removing viruses, restarting your devices, getting a Wi-Fi extender, and changing your Wi-Fi channel.</p>
<p>Before we begin, if you think your slow internet or download speed is a result of your device and not your internet connection, check out our guides to speeding up your PC, optimizing your Mac, or getting your Android or iPhone to run faster.</p>
<p>Here are 21 ways to boost internet speed on your phone, computer, or home network.</p>
<h3>1. Minimize the distance between your router and device</h3>
<p>Moving closer to your router or relocating your router is an effective way to speed up your internet connection. The farther away your device is from your Wi-Fi router, the slower your internet speed becomes.</p>
<p>Your phone or computer doesn’t need to be right next to your router to stream your favorite shows, but closer is better. Make sure there are no thick walls, especially concrete walls, between your router and your device.</p>
<p>Not every router is alike — some have a strong signal, and others don’t. If your signal strength is lacking even when you’re right next to your router, it’s time to get a new one. Look for a solid Wi-Fi router with plenty of power.</p>
<h3>2. Manage your cables</h3>
<p>Connecting a computer to a router with an Ethernet cable gives you <strong>the fastest internet connection possible</strong>. To increase speed the cable needs to be short, unbent, and good quality. A good-quality cable will also help you get the “full” speed offered by your internet service provider (ISP).</p>
<p>After experiencing regular download drops and Netflix buffering with my 50” Ethernet cable, I switched to a shorter 30” cable from a higher-quality brand, and my problems immediately disappeared. It’s an easy way to increase your internet speed and improve a poor connection, which is especially important when you’re watching TV online.</p>
<h3>3. Clear your browser&#8217;s cache and your browsing history</h3>
<p>Too much cached data can result in websites not loading, partially loading, or loading very slowly. Clear your cache and get rid of any files that might be interfering. Be aware that clearing your cache can log you out of websites you frequently use, so make sure you have your login credentials handy to log back in.</p>

<p>If your browser is slow, it could be because it’s outdated. Updating your browser can help fix bugs, security issues, and performance issues. Try updating Chrome or whichever browser you use and see if that does the trick.</p>
<p>You can update Chrome by clicking the <strong>three-dot menu</strong>, scrolling to <strong>Settings</strong>, and clicking <strong>About Chrome</strong>.</p>
<p>You can update Firefox by clicking the <strong>three-line menu</strong>, scrolling to <strong>Help</strong>, and clicking <strong>About Firefox</strong>.</p>
<h3>5. Scan your system for viruses</h3>
<p>Viruses and other malware can sneak onto your device in many ways from using public Wi-Fi that’s unsecured to a phishing attack. Infections can result in high bandwidth usage, especially when they’re digging into your personal files or downloading malicious code onto your computer.</p>
<p>To help prevent this from happening, use security software like Avast One. It’ll scan your computer from top to bottom, helping to detect and remove malware and other threats. Plus, Avast One features a suite of performance-optimization tools to help ensure your computer runs smoothly.</p>
<h3>6. Close bandwidth-heavy programs and applications</h3>
<p>If the internet is slow on your computer or laptop but works well on your phone or another device, then you should check what’s running in the background on your computer. Unnecessary programs could be hogging your bandwidth, slowing down your internet connection. Stop these background programs and quit unused applications; it might help speed up your connection.</p>
<p>Here’s how to close background apps and programs to maximize your internet speed on a PC:</p>
<ol>
<li>Right-click the taskbar, and select <strong>Task Manager</strong>.</li>

<p>In our example, OneDrive is consuming 12 Mbps of bandwidth, because it’s busy uploading files. To stop programs from draining bandwidth and background data, close them or stop them temporarily by right-clicking on the program in Task Manager and selecting <strong>End task</strong>.</p>
<p>Ending tasks will help you only temporarily because these programs will likely start up again the next time you boot up. A longer-term solution is using Sleep Mode in Avast Cleanup, which detects resource-draining programs and freezes their activity when you’re not using them.</p>
<p>Putting unused programs to sleep means that only the programs you’re actively on can use your CPU, RAM, hard disk, and network connection. That should save your computer’s resources and speed up your internet. Being able to hibernate unused apps is just one of Avast Cleanup’s many helpful maintenance features.</p>

<h3>7. Fix your congested home network</h3>
<p>Many devices on the same network result in multiple Wi-Fi signals overlapping, causing drops in network performance.</p>
<p>Here are a few tips to reduce congestion:</p>
<h4>Disconnect unused devices</h4>
<p>Disconnecting devices can help divert resources to the devices that you’re actively using. Game consoles, IoT devices, and other connected devices may download updates in the background, slowing your internet down.</p>
<h4>Use QoS to prioritize traffic</h4>
<p>Most routers allow you to set Quality of Service (QoS), which prioritizes bandwidth for certain activities rather than sharing it equally. For example, you can tell your router to give the most bandwidth to streaming on Netflix.</p>
<p>To enable QoS you need to log into your router’s settings menu. Here’s how:</p>
<ol>
<li>Enter your router’s IP address (usually on the router) in the browser’s address bar.</li>
<li>Log in with your router’s admin username and password (also usually on the router).</li>
<li>Navigate to a section called QoS, Advanced Settings, or Traffic Management.</li>
<li>Enable QoS (there may be a toggle or checkbox to mark).</li>
</ol>
<h4>Stagger bandwidth-heavy activities on your network</h4>
<p>If you know you’ll be using a lot of bandwidth, schedule it at certain times of the day around other members of your household. If someone else is already using a lot of bandwidth and you need to, wait until later or ask them to pause what they’re doing if it isn’t urgent.</p>
<h4>Create a guest network for visitors</h4>
<p>Set up a guest network using the 2.4GHz band for visitors. This will limit their internet access to basic tasks like checking social media, which should be enough. That way, you can keep your house open to guests without slowing your own internet down.</p>
<p>A guest network also improves the privacy and security of your network, which can be especially important when hosting guests at your house.</p>
<h3>8. Restart your device</h3>
<p>If your internet isn’t working as it should, try restarting your computer or phone. This refreshes network settings and clears temporary data, which can speed up your connection.</p>
<p>Here’s how to restart different devices:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>PC:</strong> Click the <strong>Windows </strong>icon &gt; the <strong>Power </strong>icon &gt; <strong>Restart</strong>.</li>
<li><strong>Mac:</strong> Click the <strong>Apple </strong>icon &gt; <strong>Restart</strong>.</li>
<li><strong>iPhone:</strong> Hold down the <strong>side button</strong> until you see <strong>Slide to power off</strong> &gt; wait about ten seconds or so &gt; hold the <strong>side button</strong> again to turn the phone back on.</li>
<li><strong>Android:</strong> Hold the power button &gt; tap <strong>Restart</strong>.</li>
</ul>
<h3>9. Restart your router or modem</h3>
<p>Restarting your router or modem can often fix slow internet speeds, too — I do it every two to three months for an internet boost. Slow router performance could be due to a caching issue or a bug in the router’s firmware. Unplug the router to clear these out and boost your wireless connection.</p>
<p>To restart your router, unplug it for at least 30 seconds so all of the cached data gets flushed. This works as an internet speed booster for all online devices connected to your home Wi-Fi.</p>
<p>If the internet is still slow on only one device, you should check if any programs are hogging your bandwidth and stop them, which will help to get a faster internet connection on that device.</p>
<h3>10. Update your device</h3>
<p>Update your device’s operating system. OS updates often come with bug fixes that developers release with new OS versions, even minor ones.</p>
<p>Just make sure you have enough space for these updates — at least 10% of your hard drive’s total capacity should be enough. Check storage on your Mac to free up space; check the space on your iPhone to see if there’s anything you can delete; reduce the space on your PC taken up by junk files; and improve your Android storage.</p>
<h3>11. Update network drivers</h3>
<p>Mac users shouldn’t ever need to manually update drivers since Apple designs the hardware and software — when you update your macOS any new drivers will be automatically updated. Windows updates also aim to update drivers, but some may be missing if Microsoft doesn’t have the latest drivers for another manufacturer on their database.</p>
<p>Updating your network driver can improve internet performance. Here’s how to update your drivers manually (in this case your network adapter):</p>
<ol>
<li>Type <strong>Device Manager</strong> in the search box and launch it.</li>
<li>Expand <strong>Network adapters</strong>.</li>

<li>If Windows can’t find a driver update, head to the manufacturer’s website and search for the page with the latest driver releases, and follow the instructions to install it.</li>

<p>Updates of all kinds are meant to fix issues affecting performance. Outdated parts of your computer can conflict with each other or leak RAM or other memory. Updates can clear these problems up, which can help to increase your network speed.</p>
<h3>12. Check router firmware</h3>
<p>Your router’s firmware may also need to be updated. To do so, access your router’s web interface from your browser. You can read the manual or look at the back of the router to learn how. Once you’ve logged in to your router’s interface, look for a button or link with something similar to <strong>Search for Updates</strong>.</p>

<p>After installing Heatmapper, you’ll need to provide it with a floor map of your home — using one that you already have or one that you create yourself as you walk around. The resulting projection of your home’s Wi-Fi signal strength will show you the best and worst spots for reliable internet.</p>
<p>An internet signal map of your home will let you know where to expect slow download speeds or even connection drops, so make sure to put your router in a place that lets you optimize the internet speed for all your connected devices.</p>
<h3>15. Get a Wi-Fi extender</h3>
<p>If your Wi-Fi router can’t maintain a strong, stable signal throughout your home, then you can use a Wi-Fi extender or repeater device to bring your router’s signal closer to you.</p>
